Shannen Doherty has spoken of her concerns about a potential Charmed reboot.

The 90210 actress starred as Prue Halliwell in the supernatural drama from 1998 to 2001, opposite Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano.

Last year, it was reported that CBS was developing a reboot of the series, while a new comic book season is to be released next month.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Doherty said that she was unsure whether a new version would work featuring different characters or actresses.

"I know the fans would love [Charmed to return] more than anything," she said. "I have no idea if it would work."

"I think it could as it's a show that people still love and adore and they will never get sick of, but I definitely don't want to see new people playing those parts."

"People fall in love and get invested in those particular characters, so to go, 'Here it is again, get reinvested', people would go, 'Wait, wait, where are my original sisters?'"

She continued: "I just don't know if you can capture that again, to take a show that impacted with fans to such a degree, then bring it back with a totally different cast, I'm not sure that you will ever recapture what the original was."

"You can make something that is different and equally as good, but you're not capturing the magic that the original show had. Charmed would not be Charmed without the original cast, it's impossible. It's just a different version of the show."

However, Doherty will reunite with her former castmate Holly Marie Combs for her upcoming travel series Off the Map, to air on Great American Country in 2015.

Speaking about the project - which takes the pair across hidden places in the US - she said: "It's not your typical LA, New York, they are really unique places where you don't have to do the touristy things. The sort of things that are off the grid, off the map."

"My pitch was Anthony Bourdain meets Thelma & Louise. Who better to do the first season with me than one of my friends, and who the fans love as well? It's not reality in any shape or form."

Doherty's classic 1990s series Beverly Hills, 90210 currently airs five nights a week at 9pm on CBS Drama in the UK.
