which reveals that the 9th and final season of Little House on the Prairie will come to DVD on October 11th, 2005. The final year of this classic program was retitled Little House: A New Beginning, reflecting the storyline change which saw Charles and Caroline Ingalls selling their "little house" to The Carters, who took prominence in the show alongside Laura and Almanzo Wilder. The Ingalls left Walnut Grove, although Charles would return "Home Again" later in the season to help Albert with a serious issue that would profoundly affect his life: morphine addiction.
This last season also saw Shannen Doherty (Charmed, Beverly Hills 90210) join the case as Jenny Wilder, Almanzo's niece, who was the central focus of several very dramatic episodes. Another dramatic episode was "A Child With No Name", which centered on Laura's relationship with Doc Baker in the wake of a very emotional personal tragedy. Dr. Hiram Baker was played during the entire run of the show by Kevin Hagen, who sadly passed away this last weekend. TVShowsOnDVD mourns his passing, and we're sure all Little House fans join us in remembering him and his great acting career.
Little House - Season 9 on DVD will be a 6-disc set that lists for $49.95 (DVDPlanet is pre-selling it at the link above for $34.97). No other details are available yet, but we'll bring more info and cover art as soon as ImaVision and Goldhil Distribution provide it. That means we don't know yet if the three post-series telefilms ("Little House: Look Back to Yesterday", "Bless All The Dear Children" and "Little House: The Last Farewell") will be included here or not. We hope that ImaVision lets us know if these will be joining the 21 episodes (including the double-length "Home Again") on the Little House: A New Beginning season set. Stay tuned.
