Shannen Doherty has embraced exercise since her father died.

The 43-year-old actress decided to adopt a healthier lifestyle a few months after her father, John Thomas Doherty, passed away after suffering a stroke on Christmas Day in 2010.

She said: "I was the girl who said, 'I don't work out. I eat what I want.' Then I turned 40 and my metabolism slowed down. Plus, after my father passed away, I got depressed and didn't take care of myself. But now I embrace exercise.

"I've definitely become a healthier Shannen."

The brunette beauty also feels a lot more confident in her skin these days.

She said: "I feel amazing. I think in your 40s there's a confidence. You've done it, you've been there and you know what you want in a calm, peaceful way."

The former 'Beverly Hills 90210' star credits regular sessions in the gym, where she focuses on cardio and boxing, for her trim figure but hasn't ruled out plastic surgery in the future.

She added to InTouch Weekly magazine: "I haven't done anything yet. But I never say never."

Shannen has teamed up with her former 'Charmed' co-star Holly Marie Combs for a new road trip series, 'Off the Map With Shannen & Holly,' and would "possibly" be open to a 'Beverly Hills 90210' reunion.

She added: "But by doing the new version [which ran from 2008 to 2013], I think I've already given some closure to fans who loved the show."
